Underwych Community Play

Underwych Community Play was staged at the Lion Salt Works in Northwich on 12-14 July 2007.

Underwych is an interpretation of the effects rock salt mining and wild brine pumping had on the environment, the experiences felt by those living in Mid-Cheshire and the solutions they can up with to mitigate the effects on their landscape and buildings.

The story is told through a fantastic journey made by Emma, who finds herself trapped in a disturbing world described by stories told by her grandfather.

Underwych was supported by The Heritage Lottery Fund, DAN, Lion Salt Works Trust, Action Weaver Valley, Vale Royal Borough Council, Cheshire County Council and Barclays Bank Community Fund.

Slide Show of 77 historic photographs and maps of Northwich mining, brine pumping and subsidence.

Along with the mannerists Joachim Wtewael, Abraham Bloemaert, Paulus Moreelse and renaissance-painter Jan van Scorel, the carravagists give the collection in Utrecht an international allure.

The Rietveld Schröderhuis in Utrecht is an icon of the Modern Movement in architecture and an outstanding expression of human creative genius in its purity of ideas and concepts as developed by the De Stijl movement.
